HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE TOXIC ROUNDUPS
DBS
ENVIRONMENTAL (DBS) WILL SUPPLY WASTE HANDLING SERVICES FOR THE IDENTIFICATION,
CLASSIFICATION, PACKAGING AND TRANSPORTING OF HOUSEHOLD WASTES COLLECTED AT
ROUND-UPS INCLUDING ELECTRONIC WASTE
ANYWHERE IN
ALBERTA. DBS WILL ALSO SUPPLY THIS SERVICE FOR
WASTE THAT IS NOT CLASSIFIED AS HOUSEHOLD.
Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) “Action On Waste” will be paying
for the costs of the disposal of wastes collected at Round-ups excluding the
items listed in Appendix 1. These excluded items can be collected at the
Household Toxic Round-up (HTRU) but the community is responsible for all costs
incurred for their disposal. ARMA’s “Electronics Recycling Alberta” will be
paying for the processing of Electronic waste (E-Waste).
DBS ENVIRONMENTAL
IS NOT ABLE TO COLLECT THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS
EXPLOSIVES, AMMUNITION, RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS, AND/OR BIO-MEDICAL WASTES
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
Ø
Event Sponsor must have an
authorized, signed agreement with DBS Environmental.
Ø
Event Sponsor must have a location
with access for a transport unit that is 100 feet long.
Ø
DBS will collect only household
and agricultural wastes at a Round-up.
Ø
Event Sponsor must provide a large
dumpster or a garbage truck to hold cardboard and other garbage.
Ø
Event Sponsor will provide a
minimum of 1 Volunteer for a 4-Hour Round-up. Other volunteers may be required
depending on the size of the community.
Ø
Commercial/Industrial Waste,
which includes schools and town operations, can be collected provided a
prearranged disposal agreement has been made.
Ø
DBS Environmental reserves the
right to limit the quantity of wastes collected to reflect the quoted price.

HTRU
Household Toxic Round-up
ROUND-UP CENTRE DBS Trailer CART Container used to hold waste (equal
to 2.5 drums)
BIN
Container used to remove cans of paint (equal to 1.5 to 2.5
bulked drums)
BULKING Removal of
materials from their original containers (DBS does not do this on site)
E-WASTE ARMA
approved electronic products included in the program are: televisions, computer
monitors (CRT and LCD), CPU’s (including mouse, keyboard, cables, desktop
computer speakers), laptop and notebook computers, desktop printers and printer
combinations (i.e., desktop printers with faxing and/or scanning capabilities)
MOBILE HOUSEHOLD TOXIC ROUND-UP PROCEDURE
45-MINUTES BEFORE ROUND-UP:
Ø
establish site for truck and
trailer
Ø
establish traffic flow, lay out
ground cover
Ø
DBS will provide protective
clothing for volunteers and hold a “Tailgate” safety talk
ROUND-UP TIME:
Ø
accept household wastes
Ø
assign volunteers to direct
traffic, greet people and bring wastes to the Round-up Centre
Ø
move paint that can be reused to
the “Paint Exchange” table
Ø
DBS personnel will sort,
identify and package the waste
PAINT EXCHANGE
- EVENT SPONSOR’S
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ø
prepare an exchange area that has
protective ground cover
Ø
set up table(s) covered with
plastic
Ø
provide additional volunteers to
run the exchange
CLOSING
Ø
one-half hour prior to closing,
paint left over from the paint exchange will be moved to the Round-up Centre
Ø
all waste volumes will be tallied
and compiled
Ø
paperwork will be completed (Sign-off
Sheet must be signed)
Ø
area will be cleaned up, Round-up
Centre prepared to leave (estimate 15 to 20 minutes after closing the event)
